Prior to his conviction in this case, the defendant Paul Alfonsi was a member and minority floor leader of the assembly of the state of Wisconsin. On June 17, 1966, a Dane county grand jury filed an indictment charging the defendant with a violation of sec. 946.10 (2), Stats. After a three-day trial, a jury on July 8, 1966, returned a verdict finding the defendant guilty as charged. The trial court entered a judgment on the verdict on July 27, 1966, and sentenced him to a fine of $1,000 or six months in the Dane county jail.
